Miss. Saccente's Speech

Welcome back Adelphia Tigers! My name is Alyssa Saccente I am the speech pathologist at Adelphia Elementary. Your child will either continue attending speech therapy sessions with me this school year or they will be new to speech. Each session will be made up of either small groups or individual sessions. We will continue to use many different materials including: books, toys, and crafts to assist your child in meeting their goals but, socially distanced.

Your child will be provided with a composition notebook in the first weeks of school. We will be actively using the composition book in speech sessions and for homework assignments. It will also act as a form of communication where you can view in class as well as homework assignments completed by your child.

Below each homework assignment will be a place for you to sign to assure your child has completed their assignments and/or practiced their target sounds. The notebook should be kept in your child’s backpack so that your child is always prepared for all speech sessions.

As parents you know when you ask the question, "How was school today?" the answer will be, "good." or any other one word answer. In an effort to expand language with your child rather than asking "How was school today?" try asking the following:

1. What was the best part of your day? (Worst part?)

2. What was. the funniest thing you saw today?

3. What was the best part of lunch?

4. What did you eat for lunch today? (What did your friends eat?)

5. Did you get called on by your teacher today? What was that like?

6. What friend in your class was the quietest? (loudest? most energetic? etc.)

7. What was your teacher wearing today?

8. Which part of your classroom do you think I would like the best?"

9. What books did you read from today?

10.What do you wish you could do more of at school?

11. What activity at school today was your favorite? (Least favorite?)

12. What games did you play at recess? (What games would you like to play at recess?)

These simple questions allow for you to assist your child with expanding their language and reduce the amount of times you get the simple, "good" answer when asking your child about their day. Also remember to listen for your child's target sound in their responses should they be working on one.
