  1. Purposeful Play: Library Responsibilities and creating library cards and signs.
    • There are different roles in your library.  Here are the titles and their responsibilities.
      • Librarian - Organizes the shelves and suggests books for readers
      • Story Teller - Reads books in story time to the different groups that come to the library.
      • Card Checker - Checks in and out books
      • Reader - the “customer” at the library (this can be someone of any age, baby dolls can be readers too!)
    • Now that you know the different roles and responsibilities in your library, think about which you would like to be (I would suggest being the librarian or story teller).  Roles can also be combined (librarian and storyteller can be the same person).  
    • You do not need to print the pictures in this document, but use them to create your own library sign, library card, open and close sign, and give yourself and members in your family jobs!

  • First, gather books from around your home.  Look around your house for these:

      • Cookbooks
      • Picture books
      • A dictionary
      • Newspapers
  • Now that you’ve gathered some books (10 to 15 would be more than enough).  Watch this video.  This video will remind you about the differences between fiction and nonfiction books. Fiction or Non Fiction Video

**The extension activity is great.  Even if you can’t print the flowers you can make your own.  Just make sure you fold the flower petals in half so they can open up in water.  Have fun!!!

      • Parents the list does NOT need to be chores that only the children are able to complete.  Add things to the list that you would be responsible for as well!
      • Some examples could include:
      • Straightening up the playroom/bedroom/living room
      • Washing the dishes
      • Dusting
      • Vacuuming/Mopping/Cleaning the floors
      • Loading/Unloading the Dishwasher/Washer Machine/Dryer
      • Folding the laundry
      • Cleaning mirrors and glass surfaces
      •  Setting the table for meals
      • Pet responsibilities (feeding the family pet, walking the dog, etc.)
